The University Relations and Marketing division at Oregon State University has a new associate vice president who began her duties on Monday.
Annie Athon Heck, a former journalist and executive communications specialist at Hewlett-Packard Co., will work with URM Vice President Steve Clark and others in the division as they lead OSU?s strategic communications and marketing efforts. In her new role, Heck will help coordinate executive communications, assist the development of OSU?s university-industry partnerships, and provide leadership to university events and OSU Research Office communications.
Heck spent the past 13 years working at Hewlett-Packard, where she helped develop communication and messaging strategies for the company. She later led a global public relations program for the printing business?s graphics segment and provided executive communications support for HP leaders.
From 1995-99, Heck was the communications director for the Corvallis School District 509J, where she also served as chief spokesperson. She was a reporter for the Statesman-Journal newspaper in Salem from 1991-95.
Heck and her husband, Bill, have lived in Corvallis since 1990. They have two teenage children.
Clark also announced that Melody Oldfield, director of University Marketing, has been promoted to assistant vice president for University Relations and Marketing. She will continue as director of University Marketing and also work with Clark to provide leadership for the university?s integrated marketing and communications plan, which is being revised.
Angela Yeager, a news writer in the Department of News and Research Communications, has been named media relations specialist for the university. She will take a lead role in establishing relationships with news media outlets in Oregon and beyond.
